King's Softball Eliminated From Freedom Conference Tournament by FDU-Florham
Edwardsville, Pa. -- The King's College softball team gave up four runs in the top of the seventh inning dropping a hard-fought 8-7 decision to FDU-Florham in the first elimination game of the Freedom Conference tournament Saturday at Wilkes University's Ralston Athletic Complex.
The Lady Monarchs held a 7-4 advantage going to the final frame, but the Devils belted four straight hits to cut the lead to 7-5 and load the bases. Maggie Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to right and Sarah Lima delivered the go-ahead hit on a single up the middle to put the Devils up 8-7.
King's jumped out early scoring a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from
Tina Seber. The Lady Monarchs posted a three spot in the second keyed by a two-run two-out double by
Erin Beane to go up 4-0.
Maggie Gola added a solo home run in the third to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Devils answered with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Wynne McCann belted a three run homer over the right field fence and Kristie Crilley added a solo shot to cut the lead to 5-4. The Lady Monarchs added a pair of runs in the sixth added by a bunt single and a pair of walks to extend the lead to 7-4.
Katie Kowalski went 1-for-2 for the Lady Monarchs and added two RBI. Gola was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Annie Erndl took the loss in relief allowing two runs on three hits.
Lima posted three hits for the Devils with two RBI and one run scored. Crilley added a pair of hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Sydney Worek picked up the win in relief allowing three runs on three hits, four strikeouts and two walks.
The Lady Monarchs finished the season 23-9 overall.
