Box Score Late Manhattaville Rally Dooms King's Men's Basketball in Freedom Conference Action

Joe Caffrey's three-pointer as time expired rimmed out and the Monarchs fell 76-75 to Manhttanville in Freedom Conference action on Saturday.
King's built the second half to lead to 68-48 after a
Nate Oliver layup with 10:03 to play. Then the Valiants started their comeback. Manhattanville went on an 18-0 run capped by an old-school three-point play by Jack Bramswig to cut the Monarch lead to 68-66.
Caffrey netted a pair of free throws to put King's up 70-66, but Connor Quigley hit a three-pointer to get back within 70-69.Â
Kyle Hammonds made a jumper at the 3:21 mark and
Dan Rutecki split a pair of shots from the charity stripe to extend the King's lead to 73-69, but the Valiants tallied the next four points to even the score at 73,
Rutecki gave King's the lead back with two free throws, but again Quigley connected from long range to give Manhattanville its first lead, 76-75 with 1:17. The Monarchs had two possessions to tie or take the lead and both
Tim O'Shea and Caffrey came up short setting the final.
The Monarchs went into the break up 46-32 and came out of the half hot going on a 9-2 spurt that pushed the lead out to 53-34. Manhattanville went on a 12-5 run of its own to cut the margin to 12, 58-46, with 13:00 to play. The Monarchs tallied a 10-2 run to extend the lead to 68-46 with 10:03 to play setting up the Valiants comeback.
Manhattanville got off to a quick start building a 9-3 lead to open the game. King's got a jumper from
Alex Cardoza and six points from
Tom Heston to take its first lead 11-9 at the 14:46 mark. The teams traded the lead over the next five minutes with Juan Camacho putting the Valiants up 21-19 with 9:49 to play.
The Monarchs finished the half on a 27-11 run that put the Monarchs up 46-32 at the break.
Hammonds led the way for King's with 19 points and four rebounds. Heston netted 13 points and four boards while Rutecki netted 11 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
Anthony Maestre was the Valiants leading scorer with 17 points. Jack Bramswig added 15 points and five rebounds while Colin Campbell chipped in 10 points.
The Monarchs are now 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom while Manhattanville is 7-10, 3-3 in league play.
King's will continue Freedom Conference play on Wednesday when they host Misericordia at 8:00 p.m. at Scandlon Gymnasium.
