KING'S MEN UPSET BY MARYWOOD AT CROSS COUNTY CHALLENGE

SCRANTON — The Marywood University men's basketball team built a 39-27 lead at the half and never trailed as the Pacers pull off a 77-68 victory over King's College on the final day of the Cross County Challenge Saturday at the University of Scranton.

With the loss, King's fell to 5-6 on the year while Marywood improved to 5-5. It was the Pacers first-ever victory over King's in men's basketball.

The Pacers led by as many as 16 points in the first half and by as many as 12 in the second stanza. King's managed to cut the lead two one point on two occasions in the second half, the final time coming with 6:44 left on two foul shots by Tim O'Shea to trim the lead to 61-60. But the Pacers outscored King's 16-8 the rest of the way to walk away with the victory.

Joe Caffrey topped King's with 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while O'Shea also added 15 points. Kyle Hammonds followed with 14 points, three boards, and two assists and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Dan Rutecki tallied 10 points and five rebounds while Nate Oliver and Christian Skrepenak chipped in with six points each. Skrepenak also contributed six rebounds.

Marywood was led by Ryan Corrigan with 20 points while Kendall Harris followed with 13. Shane Kellaher and Jon Velazquez tallied 11 points each.

The Monarxchs return to the floor Monday with a 7 :00 p.m. Game at Muhenberg College in Allentown.
