KING'S MADELINE GRIFFIN REACHES MAC SINGLES SEMI-FINALS

WILKES-BARRE -- King's College junior Madeline Griffin has advanced to the semi-finals of the number-one singles flight at the 2014 Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships at Kirby Park.

Griffin reached the semi-finals after posting a 8-0 win over Shanon Sheridan of Lycoming and a 6-0, 6-0 decision aganst Megan Myers of Misericordia. In the semi-finals she will meet second-seeded Amelia Capuano of Lebanon Valley.

In the second singles flight King's Lauren DeReinzi fell to Ty Chelle Williams of Stevenson. At third singles King's freshman Julia Keppel  won her first match 8-2 over Eastern's Jen Balbi but fell to fourth-seeded Julia Baranov of Wilkes 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

In the number-four singles flight King's Miranda Warunek fell to Ern Sullivan of Albright 8-3. In fifth singles King's Vanessa Wagner won her first match 8-5 over Angela Anthony of Eastern. Wagner, however, fell 6-2, 6-0 to top-seeded Alanna Denauski of Wilkes in the quarterfinals.

At number-six singles, King's Emily Kalbalka won her first match 8-0 over Emilyann Maialetti of Delaware Valley but then dropped a 6-0, 6-2 verdict to fourth-seeded Lillian Hussar of Alvernia. At seventh singles King's Hifza Saedd lost her first match 8-3 to Xena Sperrazzo of Alvernia

In doubles, King's number-one team of Griffin and Keppel won their first match 8-1 but fell 8-5 to top-seeded Croker and Wardius of Wilkes. In number-three doubles King's team of Warunek and Kabalka lost their first match 8-1 to Nobel and Dierwetcher of Lebanon Valley. King's did not have entries in the number two and four doubles flights.

Semi-finals and finals will begin Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
