KING'S SOFTBALL SWEPT IN SEASON OPENER BY CARDINAL STRITCH
MYRTLE BEACH -- After two months of practicing indoors, the King's College softball team opened its Spring Break trip at the Snowbird Tournament at Myrtle Beach, SC. The Lady Monarchs' debut outside revealed an expected rust as King's dropped a doubleheader to Cardinal Stritch University.
The Lady Monarchs dropped the first game 1-0, then fell 5-3 in the nightcap to Cardinal Stritch, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
In the opener, King's mustered just three hits in the game as Jenn Harnischfeger ripped a double while Amy Kowalczyk and Nicolette Pizzo added singles.  Lady Monarch starting pitcher
Karissa Kross took the loss, allowing one unearned run in three innings while striking out three batters. Brittany Haight finished up, alllowing two hits the rest of the way.

In the second game KIng's produced a bit more offense, totaling five hits. Harnischfeger went 1-for-3 with a double and scored one run. Pizzo was 1-for-2 and scored twice. Erin Beane, Amandaa Cardone, and Tina Seber chipped in with one hit apiece.
Rachel Linso was the starting pitcher for King's, lasting four innings and allowing three runs, all unearned, with three strikeouts. Allison Herbert took the loss, allowing two earned runs over the final three innings on five hits.

King's plays Monday against Iowa Wesleyan at 1:30 p.m. The Lady Monarchs' game scheduled against Rosemont has been canceled as Rosemont withdrew from the tournament.
