KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS BAPTIST BIBLE IN PREP FOR MATCH WITH DEFENDING CHAMPION DESALES SATURDAY

WILKES-BARRE -- Since going 6-2 during its Spring Break Trip to Myrtle Beach in early March, the King's College softball team return home and sat idle for 16 days waiting for the snow to melt and its field to dry enough to even practice.  On Friday the Lady Monarchs finally got back on the field and posted a doubleheader sweep of Baptist Bible College at the Betzler Athletic Complex.

With the sweep, the Lady Monarchs improved to 8-2, but perhaps more important, King's had an opportunity to prep for Saturday's Freedom Conference opener against defending league champion DeSales having finally faced live pitching for the first time since March 5.

King's bats did the job against Baptist Bible, winning both games in five inning by scores of 16-2 and 9-0.

In the opener King's jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead when Amanda Cardone drilled a two-run home run. The Lady Monarchs blew the game open in the second inning with 13 runs to put the game away by taking a 15-0 lead.

In the nightcap, the game started similar to the first as King's took a 2-0 lead on the strength of a RBI double by Cardone. The Lady Monarchs pushed across seven runs in the second to up the lead to 9-0.

Cardone was 2-for-3 with three RBI  while Amy Kowalczyk finished 2-for-3 with a two-run double. Maggie Gola was also 2-for-3 with a double while Kelsie Senchak was 1-for-2 with a RBI triple.
