KING'S SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR TO MANHATTANVILLE

PURCHASE, NY -- The King's College softball team managed just nine base hits over teh course of two full games as the Lady Monarchs dropped both ends of a doubleheader to host Manhattanville College Tuesday in Purchase, NY.

With the sweep, Manhattanville improved to 7-6 overall and 3-0  in Freedom Conference play while King's slipped to 11-7 and 2-4.

King's was unable to solve Manhattanville hurler Alyssa Taylor who threw complete game victories in both games. Taylor tossed a four-hitter in the opener and a five-hitter in the nightcap.

In the first game, Amanda Cardone had a double while Erin Beane, Tina Seber, and Nicolette Pizzo each had singles.  Rachel Linso was the losing pitcher, allowing three earned runs on five hits in two and two-thirds innings. Brittany Haight pitched the final three and one-third innings without allowing a run.

In the nightcap, Jenn Harnischfeger, Maggie Gola, Amy Kowalczyk, Seber, and Pizzo all had singles for King's. Karissa Kross was the losing pitcher, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out six batters.

King's returns to the diamond Thursday with a 3:00 p.m. road doubleheader against Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ.
