KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS DOWNS MISERICORDIA AS LYNN CLINCHES MATCH ON 21ST BIRTHDAY

Sara Lynn
WILKES-BARRE -- Junior Sara Lynn (Berwick/Berwick) celebrated her 21st birthday by posting a match-winning 7-5, 7-6 triumph to give the host King's College women's tennis team a 5-4 Freedom Conference victory over visiting Misericordia University Tuesday at Kirby Park.

With the win, King's improved to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in league competition while Misericordia slipped to 6-6 and 0-1 in conference play.

After Misericordia captured two of the three doubles contests to start the match, King's chipped away in the singles competition. The Lady Monarchs won the first three completed matches to take a 4-2 lead but Misericordia captured the next two bouts to tie the match at 4-4.

Lynn won a razor close first-set 7-5 against Cougar opponent Breanne Phillips. Lynn appeared to have the match in control, building a 5-2 lead in the second set by Phillips battled back to even the set at 6-6, forcing a tiebreaker.

With her family, friends, teammates, and members of King's men's tennis team having already started to partake in an ample array of food to celebrate her birthday, Lynn gained control and won the tiebreaker 7-1 to give King's an important conference victory while being able to finally join her own birthday celebration.

Madeline Griffin, Emily Biffen, and Katlyn Rossowski each posted dominating straight-set singles wins to get King's back in the match while Biffen and Lauren DeReinzi won a critical 9-8 (7-5) decision in doubles which also weighed heavily in the team's victory.
