King's Softball Sweeps Eastern in Important League Doubleheader

KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS EASTERN

ST. DAVIDS -- The King's College softball team picked a pair of key Freedom Conference victories on Saturday as the Lady Monarchs took to the road to sweep host Eastern University 6-1 and 11-4 in St. Davids.

With the sweep King's improved to 20-8 overall and 6-4 in Freedom Conference play. Eastern, meanwhile, slipped to 13-13 and 4-6 in league competition.
In the opener, the Lady Monarchs built a 4-1 lead after five innings until Lisa Alley put the game away with a two-run home run in the sixth.  

Alley finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI. Jenn Harnischfeger was 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI while Amanda Cardone went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run.


Karissa Kross (6-5) was the winning pitcher for King's, allowing one unearned run on seven hits while striking out for batters.

In the nightcap the teams were locked in a scoreless tie until the fourth inning where King's exploded for six runs, keyed by a two-run single from Tina Seber and RBI base hits from Jenn Harnischfeger and Kelsie Senchak.

After Eastern cut the gap to 6-3 heading into the seventh, the Monarchs played five more runs to seal the win. In the inning Senchak had a two-run triple, Amy Kowalczyk delivered a two-run double to lead the late surge.

Harnischfeger was 2-for-5 while Kowalczyk went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Nicolette Pizzo, Erin Beane, and Senchak added two hits each.

Rachel Linso was the winning pitcher in game-two for King's, scattering six hits while allowing four runs, three which were earned.

King's will next host Lycoming Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
