KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH SCRANTON

JESSUP -- Maggie Gola went 6-for-7 with three home runs and 11 RBI as the King's College softball team split a doubleheader with teh host University of Scranton Tuesday night at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex.

The Lady Monarchs won the opener 21-9 in five innings but dropped the nightcap 9-8. 
With the split King's stands at 16-8 while the Lady Royals are 5-12.

In the opener King's scored early and often, posting seven runs in the first inning, five in the second, two in the third, and seven more in the fourth to invoke the eight run mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Gola led the way by going 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI, including a three-run home run in the first inning.  Nicolette Pizzo was 2-for-5 with three runs and belted a grand-slam home run in the fourth inning. Shelby Eby was 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI while Lisa Alley finished 1-for-3 with four RBI, including a three-run home run in the Lady Monarchs' seven-run first inning. Jenn Harnischfeger chipped in by going 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI

Robyn Klingerman picked up the pitching win fr King's in relief of starter Rachel Linso, throwing the final two and one-third innings and allowing one earned run on six hits with one strikeout

In the second game King's held a 8-4 lead after the Lady Monarchs scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning. But Scranton answered with five runs over its final four at-bats, including two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win.

Gola was again the star for King's, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI, including a pair of three-run home runs. Erin Beane finished 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Harnischfeger was 2-for-4 with two runs and a solo home run. 

The Lady Monarchs return to the field Thursday with a 3:00 p.m. road doubleheader at Oneonta State University in Oneonta, NY.
