KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS 5-2 AT YORK COLLEGE

YORK -- The York College field hockey team opened up a 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back as the host Spartans posted a 5-2 victory over King's College Saturday in York.

With the win York improved to 7-1 while King's slipped to 4-4.

York opened the scoring just 4:50 into the game when Holly Martin scored off a Ali Posey assist. The score grew to 2-0 just 1:42 later when Beth Patrick scored unassisted. York would take a 3-0 lead into the break when Posey struck net off an assist by Nancy Saylor at the 17:13 mark.

In the second half the score swelled to 4-0 when Shaina Gelvin found the back of the net just 1:43 into the final session. King's finally got on the board when Alyssa Monaghan scored off an assist from Nicole Sott at 45:06, and then added her second goal with 13 minutes remaining off a pass by Meghan Lermond to cut the lead to 4-2. But York put the game away when Shania Gelvin scored unassisted with 4:40 left in the contest.

York outshot King's 29-12 and held a 13-7 advantage in penalty corners.

King's goalie Paige Tedik yielded four goals and made six saves, including a stop on a penalty stroke, in 45 minutes of play. Chelsea Blaney allowed one goal and made eight stops.

King's returns to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Moravian College in Bethlehem.
