KING''S MEN'S SOCCER POSTS 5-0 WIN OVER STATEN ISLAND

STATEN ISLAND, NY -- The King's College men's soccer team broke open a close game at the half with four second-half scores as the Monarchs posted a 5-0 victory over host College of Staten Island in Staten Island, NY.

With the win King's improved to 4-1 while the Dolphins slipped to 0-4.

Daniel Hernandez gave King's a 1-0 lead on an unassisted score 12:29 into the game.  

The Monarchs would explode at the start of the second half when Chris Nygren scored just 0:07 into the final stanza off a through ball from Brian Fenster. The score grew to 3-0 just 4:41 later when Niall Croke found the net off a free kick from 20 yards out. 

Keegan Fees made it as 4-0 game when he converted a pass from Hernandez at the 53:07 mark. Nygren netted the final goal of the game at with 29:46 left in the contest, allowing King's coach Mark Bassett to go deep into his bench.

Nyrgen finished with two goals while Hernandez added one goal and one assist.


King's held a 20-12 advantage in shots while the Dolphins led 7-4 in corner kicks.  Monarch goalie Tyler Wilson made five saves in 74 minutes while Marcus Otto finished out the game and mad one stop. 

The Monarchs will be idle until Saturday when King's hosts Juniata College at 7:00 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
