KING'S MEN FALL AT DESALES, 78-57

CENTER VALLEY -- The King's College men's basketball team shot just 34.8 percent from the floor and 18.8 percent from three-point range as the Monarchs fell on the road to DeSales University 78-57 Saturday in Center Valley.

With the loss, King's fell to 10-9 and 3-5 in the Freedom Conference while DeSales improved to 14-5 and 6-2. The Bulldog win allowed DeSales to gain a split of the season series between the two squads.

King's fell behind early as DeSales came out of the gates and built a 11-4 lead at the 16:15 mark after a pair of soul shots by Aaron Burton. The Monarchs closed to within 11-8 after back-to-back jumpers by Chris and John Fazzini but DeSales answered with a 7-0 spurt to push the lead to 18-8 following a Connor Jones trey with 11:42 left in the half.

King's countered with a 8-2 surge to whittle the lead to 20-16 after a Connor Hughes three-pointer with 8:45 left in the half.  But DeSales used a 11-2 run of its own to push the score to 31-18 after consecutive three-pointers by Brian Laird and Cody Deal with 2:43 left in the first half.  The Bulldogs eventually took a 36-24 lead into the break.

In the second half DeSales built leads of 15 points on two occasions before King's cut the score to 44-34 on a Dan Rutecki three-pointer with 14:14 to go. King's continued to chip away and traditional three-point play from Rutecki, a jumper by John Fazzini, and another Rutecki basket brought the Monarchs to within 52-44 with 10:35 on the clock.

But over the next four minutes the Bulldogs outscored King's 12-5 to stretch the lead to 18 points at 67-49 at 6:37 to play. The Monarchs would draw no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

John Fazzini paced King's with 17 points and four assists while Chris Fazzini followed with 13 points and three boards. Rutecki finished wth 12 points and six boards while Hughes tallied seven points.

King's shooting woes continued after a poor performance in a loss to Wilkes on Wednesday night. The Monarchs made 23-of-36 from the fieldagainst DeSales while converting just 3-of-16 from long range. King's has especially struggled from three-point range the last three games as the Monarchs have made only 8.3 (4-of-33) percent from down town.

DeSales was led by Aaron Burton with 24 points while Cody Deal followed with 21. Kuity Salnger added 11 while Travis Bryan chipped in with six points and eight boards.
