KING'S WOMEN REGISTER 71-30 HOME WIN OVER PENN STATE WILKES-BARREWILKES-BARRE —
Marissa Manning and
Olivia Hoffman combined for 22 points and 17 rebounds to power the King's College women's basketball team to a 71-30 victory over visiting Penn State Wilkes-Barre Thursday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win King's improved to 5-6 on the year while the Mountain Lions slipped to 3-7.
King's jumped out the gates with a 11-0 run just 15:17 into the game thanks to jumpers from
Jennifer Fabian and Hoffman, a pair of foul shots and a bucket by
Kayla Feairheller, and a three-pointer from
Kasey Seitz. After Breanna Moore scored for the Mountain Lions, Maning and
Tara Zdancewicz countered with baskets for King's to put the Lady Monarchs ahead 15-2 at the 13:24 mark.
Shauntel Williams then canned a three-pointer for Penn State but four straight points from Hoffman, a lay-up by
Shae Grim, and a jumper from Zdancewicz pushed the King's lead to 22-5 with 9:14 left in the opening stanza. The Lady eventually stretched the lead to 40-13 after an inside basket by
Jennifer Fabian and three points from Hoffman as the Lady Monarchs took a 40-14 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, four points from Manning and a lay-up by Fabian pushed the score to 44-14. Later a Manning bucket and one of free throws by Seitz gave King's a 31-point lead at 47-16 with 15:55 to play. King's substituted liberally the rest of the way and pushed the lead to 39 points when five straight points from Rachel DeTore extended the score to 39 points at 62-23 at the 8:01 mark. King's eventually stretched the lead to 42 points when
Katie Dugan buried a three-pointer to give KIng's a 67-25 lead with 5:03 to go.
Manning posted a team-high 12 points with eight rebounds while Hoffman followed with 10 points nine rebounds, and four blocks. Fabian added nine points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists while Feairheller contributed eight points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Seitz tallied six points and three assists while Zdancewicz posted five points and nine boards. DeTore also added five points with six rebounds while
Maggie Michael chipped in with five points and five boards.
King's out rebounded Penn State Wilkes-Barre by a whopping 72-44 margin while the Lady Monarchs also blocked 10 shots. King's 72 boards were the 10th highest single-game total in Division II this season.
Penn State was led by Shauntel Williams with 12 points and four rebounds while Breana Moore followed with nine points and six rebounds. Jacqueline Rabender posted a team-high 11 rebounds.
King's returns to Scandlon Gym Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup with Gwynedd-Mercy University.
