KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER USES BIG SECOND HALF TO DOWN EASTERN, 4-1

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's soccer team broken a 1-1 game in the second half with three man-down goals as the lady Monarchs posted an important 4-1 victory over visiting Eastern University in a Freedom Conference matchup Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.  The win enabled King's to remain in the league playoff hunt.

With the win King's improved to 6-6-2 and 2-2-2 in Freedom Conference play while Eastern slipped to 6-10-1 and 2-4 in league competition.

King's opened the scoring at the 20:36 mark when Allison Andrew scored after hauling in the rebound on her own miss following a save by the Eastern goalie.

The Eagles tied the score at 28:50 when Emily Cole headed in a crossing pass from Katy Laurie.

King's, however, would suffer a major blow when standout goalie Jessica Natale was red-carded after attempting to make a sliding stop of a ball contested by an Eastern player which resulted in a collision. Natale was ejected, forcing King's to play man-down the rest of the match.

Entering the second half tied at 1-1, King's forged ahead with 27:18 remaining when Ivy Nulton and Alexandra Garrett took advantage of a two-on-one situation on a break-away play. Nulton found Garrett with a perfect crossing pass and the junior midfielder found he back of the net to give the Lady Monarchs a 2-1 lead.

King's then put the game away with two more goals over a 0:50 span.

Nulton took a ball down the right wing and made a center pass to Barge, who drilled in a shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner of the net with 14:20 left.  The score quickly grew to 4-1 when Erin Laird found an open Nulton with a lead pass on the wing and Nulton outraced an Eastern defender to beat the eagle goalie low.

King's outshot eastern 13-10 while the Eagles held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

King's reserve goalie Jessica Kuhn made four saves in relief of Natale, who posted one stop.

King's will next travel to face Alfred University Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
