KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH EASTERN IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TWIN BILL

WILKES-BARRE -- Alizabeth Ellsworth registered a pinch-hit single to drive home the game winning run in the seventh inning as the King's College softball team posted a 5-4  victory over visiting Eastern Universityas the Monarchs salvaged a split in a Freedom Conference doubleheader Sunday in the Betzler Complex.  Eastern won the first game 10-7.

King's stands at 5-10 overall  and 1-3 in the Freedom Conference while Eastern is 4-16 and 3-3.

In the second game, Eastern rallied to take a 4-3 lead with a run in the top of the seventh inning when Kerchersk singled and later scored on a two-out base hit from Kelsey Clever.

In the bottom of the seventh King's Debra Renner reached on an error and moved to second on an infield out. Rachael DeTore then drilled a RBI double to tie the game at 4-4 before Ellsworth came to the plate to deliver the game-winning single.

DeTore led King's in the nightcap by going 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the fourth innings and a double while scoring two runs. Helana Supsic was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Samantha Bloom was the winning pitcher for King's in relief, going one and one-third innings, allowing two hits and one earned run.

In the opener King's fell behind 10-2 in the fourth inning but in the bottom of the frame scored four runs to trim the lead to 10-6 on the strength of a two-run double by Renner and a two-run single from Nicole Turner.  The Monarchs added a run in the seventh when DeTore doubled and scored on a RBI single from Ellsworth to cut the lead to 10-7 with no outs.
