King's Softball Earns Sweep of Delaware Valley, 8-0 and 7-0

KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS DELAWARE VALLEY

DOYLESTOWN -- The King's College softball team posted back-to-back shutout victories on Wednesday as the Monarchs earned a doubleheader sweep of host Delaware Valley University in Doylestown.

King's won the first game 8-0 in five innings before taking the nightcap 7-0. The Monarchs improved to  7-10 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference while Delaware Valley slipped to 1-17 and 1-7.

In the opener King's took advantage of four Delaware Valley errors. Helana Supsic reached base on an error and Later scored on a RBI double by Amy Kowalczyk.  The Monarchs added a run in the second when Shelby Eby singled, moved to third on a double by Alizabeth Ellsworh, then scored on a base hit off the bat of Samantha Bloom to go ahead 2-0.

In the third two Aggie errors contributed to four King's runs. Brianna DiMaggo had a RBI single while Bloom added a sacrifice fly. King's pushed the lead to 8-0 in the fourth when Nicole Turner doubles and scored on a RBI single from Megan Beaupre.

Rachel Linso earned the pitching win for King's, tossing a five-inning two hitter.  Ellsworth was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs. Bloom was 1-for-2 with two RBI while Beaupre finished 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.  Turner and Kowalczyk were both 1-for-3 with a double.

In the nightcap King's took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Supsic walked, stole second base, and later scored from third on an infield ground out by Turner.

The Monarchs added five runs in the third. Deborah Renner drew a leadoff walk and then moved to second on a single by Rachael DeTore. Eby then drew a walk to load the bases before Ellsworth picked a RBI with another walk. Supsic followed with a two-run single. Ellsworth and Supsic then scored on back-to-back wild pitches to push the lead to 8-0.

King's added its final run in the seventh when DiMaggio reached base on a fielder's choice and later scored on a RBI single by Bloom.

Allison Herbert was the winning pitcher for King's, tossing a complete-game three hitter with five strikeouts.  Bloom was 3-for-5 with a RBI while Ellsworth finished 2-for-2 with a run and RBI. Supsic went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

King's will host Wilkes Thursday at 3:00 pm. at the Betzler Athletic Complex.
