KING'S SOFTBALL PICKS UP SPLIT WITH DESALES IN LEAGUE DOUBLEHEADER

CENTER VALLEY -- Junior pitcher Rachel Linso tossed a five-hitter and Nicole Turner drove in three runs as the King's College softball team defeated host DeSales University 5-3 in game-two to salvage a split in an important Freedom Conference doubleheader Saturday in Center Valley. King's lost the first game 6-2.

With the split King's stands at 10-11 overall and 6-4 in the Freedom Conference. DeSales is now 12-10 overall and 10-2 in league competition.

In the second game DeSales led 1-0 entering the third inning. But King's answered when Helana Suspic and Samantha Bloom both singled before Amy Kowalczyk dmacked a single up the middle to tie the score.  After Debra Renner singled to load the bases, Turner then came up with the biggest hit if the game when she drilled a three-run double to give the Monarchs a 4-1 lead.

After DeSales scored in the fourth, King's responded with a run in the sixth when Supsic singled and later scored from second on a double by Renner to push the lead to 5-2.

DeSales scored a run in the sixth but Linso shut the door the rest of the way to pick up the victory.

Supsic was 3-for-4 with two runs while Renner was also 3-for-4. Turner finished 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In the opener, DeSales rode the arm of junior pitcher D.J. Macauley who tossed a four-hitter..

DeSales scored three runs in the first inning off a three-run home. King's scored two in the second inning when Turner  singled and Shelby Eby walked. After a base hit by Brianna DiMaggio advanced both runners, Supsic stroked a two-run single to cut the lead to 3-2.  But DeSales scored what proved to be the final runs of the game with a three-run bottom-of-the-second inning.

Supsic paced King's with two hits and two RBI. Turner and DiMaggio added the other hits for King's.
