WILKES-BARRE, PA --- In a rematch of the 2014 Freedom Conference Championship game the King's College softball team swept visiting Manhattanville College on Sunday afternoon at the Betzler Athletic Complex. The Monarchs won both games by identical 9-1 scores in five innings.

With the wins King's clinched its 16th consecutive Freedom Conference Tournament berth. The Lady Monarchs improved their record to 12-11 overall and 8-4 in league play. Manhattanville falls to 11-17 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

The Monarchs extended that lead in the second inning when Samantha Bloom singled to centerfield to score Brianna DiMaggio. Bloom then stole second and Helena Supsic was able to score before the throw to second could get back to the catcher.

Bloom struck again in the third inning with a two RBI triple down the right field line to score Supsic and DiMaggio. Amy Kowalczyk singled through the right side to score Bloom and give King's a 7-0 advantage. Manhattanville was able to get on the board in the fourth when Alexis Ventarola tripled and then Brittany Deieso hit a sacrifice fly to score the run.

King's scored their final two runs in the fifth when Supsic walked and Kowalczyk tripled to right field to score Suspic. Debra Renner then hit a grounder that bounced over the shortstop's head and into left field to score Kowalczyk and end the game. Allison Herbert allowed just three hits and had three strikeouts to get the win in the pitching circle.

In game two the Valiants were able to get a run across in the first inning but King's responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half. With the bases loaded Nicole Turner hit a two RBI single down the left field line and then DeTore tripled to the gap in right center to give King's a 4-1 lead. Bloom gave the Monarchs another run when she hit a double in the second inning to score Supsic. Bloom was thrown out at third trying to stretch her double into a triple.
