KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS FDU-FLORHAM, 6-5, 14-1

MADISON, NJ -- The King's College softball team  continued to prepare for next weekend's Freedom Conference Tournament as the Lady Monarchs wrapped up their league schedule with a doubleheader sweep of host FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison, NJ.

With the wins King's improved to 16-11 overall and 10-4 in the Freedom Conference while FDU fell to 10-18 and 5-9 in league play.

In the opener King's scored in the first inning when Amy Kowalczyk doubled and touched home on a base hit from Debra Renner.
The Monarchs added three in the fourth on the strength of a double from Brianna DiMaggio, a single and stolen base from Helana Suspic and another Renner RBI single to go ahead 4-2.

King's scored its final two runs in the sixth when Alizabeth Ellsworth singled and later scored from third on a wild pitch while Shelby Eby also singled and scored from third on an infield grounder off  the bat of DiMaggio.

Renner and a 2-for-3 with two RBI while DiMaggio was 2-for-3 with one runs and one RBI. Kowalczyk was 1-for-4 and scored two runs while Supsic finished 1-for-3 with one run scored.

Rachel Linso was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs on six and two-thirds innings. Allison Herbert picked up the save by getting the final out of the game.

In the nightcap King's exploded for five runs in the first inning, then added four more in the second to open a 9-0 lead.  After scoring one in the fourth King's pushed across four more runs in the fifth.

Eby went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI while Nicole Turner was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI.  Rachael DeTore was 1-for-2 with two runs and a three-run home run in the second inning. Ellsworth finished 2-for-3 with a RBI double and scored four runs. Kowalczyk was 2-for-3 while DiMaggio contributed by going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Herbert was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits and one run with three strikeouts in five innings of work.

King's will close out its regular-season Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. home doubleheader against Albright College.
