King’s Field Hockey Drops 5-2 Decision to Nationally-Ranked Salisbury University

KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO #2 SALISBURY UNIVERSITY, 5-2

DALLAS, PA – Second-ranked Salisbury University scored three times in the last 16 minutes to defeat the King's College field hockey team 5-2 on Friday afternoon at McGeehan Field on the campus of Misericordia University in Dallas, PA.

The Monarchs kept the highly ranked national powerhouse off the scoreboard for most of the first half until Courtney Jantzen gave the Sea Gulls a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. In the 42nd minute Becca Rinaca scored to give Salisbury a 2-0 lead.

King's fought back and Madysen Jones cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal in the 48th minute off an assist from Brianna DiMaggio. A little under two minutes later DiMaggio tied the game with a goal of her own.

The Sea Gulls responded in the 55th minute when Rinaca scored her second goal of the game to give Salisbury a 3-2 lead. Sam Johnson and Jessica Crew scored insurance goals for Salisbury in the 62nd minute and 69th minute to round out the scoring.

The Monarchs were outshot 30-5 while the Sea Gulls also had a 17-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Brianna DiMaggio led King's with one goal and one assist while Madysen Jones had one goal. Paige Tedik made 12 saves in goal.

Salisbury was led by Becca Rinaca with two goals and one assist while Sam Johnson, Courtney Jantzen, and Jessica Crew had a goal each. Casie Preisch had an assist. Tressie Windsor got the win making two saves in goal.

Salisbury is ranked second in the 2015 Penn Monto / NFHCA Division III Preseason Poll following the 2014 season where they saw their season end in the National Semifinals.

King's will have little time to rest though as they will next face Wesley College on Saturday at 12:00 in Dallas during the second day of the Misericordia Tournament.
