KING'S SOFTBALL POSTS DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF IMMACULATA

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team made its home debut a successful one Saturday as the Monarchs posted a doubleheader sweep of visiting Immaculata University in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King's won the first game 13-5 in six innings before capturing the nightcap 8-0 in five innings. In the process the Monarchs improved to 6-4 while Immaculata slipped to 1-7.

In the opener King's trailed 5-1 in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the frame the Monarchs pushed across six runs before adding five more in the sixth to end the game.

Rachael DeTore led the way by going 3-for-4 with two runs, a double, and five RBI. Alizabeth Ellsworth followed with a 2-for-4 showing with a double, triple, and three RBI. Lexi Wolk was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and a double. Brianna DiMaggio went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. Samantha Bloom contributed a 2-for--3 effort.

Mikayla Hoskins improved to 2-0 on the year after entering the game in relief in the fourth inning. Hoskins allowed one hit in one and two-thirds innings in relief of starter Rachel Linso.

In the second game King's built a 3-0 lead after four innings thanks to a double by DeTore and subsequent RBI single from Zina Knight in the second. Two innings later DiMaggio delivered a two-run single.

King's, though, would end the game with a five-run fifth with the help of two Immaculata errors. Wolk had a RBI single while Ellsworth stroked a two-run single.

Knight was 3-for-3 with a RBI while DiMaggio finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Ellsworth was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Bloom was the winning pitcher, scattering five hits and striking out eight batters.

Bloom was at her best in the clutch in the game. Four different innings Bloom posted an inning-ending strikeout with Immaculata having a runner in scoring position.

King's returns to the field Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. home doubleheader against Muhlenberg at the Betzler Complex.
