King's Softball Drops Two Close Games to Muhlenberg

KING'S SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR TO MUHLENBERG

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball came up short on both ends of a doubleheader loss to visiting Muhlenberg College on Tuesday. The Mules won the first game 3-1 before taking the nightcap 8-6.

In the opener, King's scored the first run in the second inning when Rachael DeTore doubled and touched home on a RBI single from Alizabeth Ellsworth.


The Mules took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on a two-run double by Karissa Astrella. Muhlenberg added an insureance run in the sixth when Amerlia Shelly doubled and scored on an Astrella single.

Rachel Linso took the pitching loss for King's, allowing all three runs on five hits. Ellsworth led the Monarchs with two base hits and a RBI. 

In the nightcap, Muhlenberg broke open a 1-1 tie entering the third inning by scoring four unearned runs, keyed by a two-out grand-slam home run by Astrella. 


King's came back and scored one in the bottom of the third, then added four more in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. But Muhlenberg rallied in the seventh when Taylor Trifolitis hit a two-out solo home run to knot the game at 6-6.  After a base hit and a walk, Astrella came up big again and delivered a two-run double to give the Mules an 8-6 lead. King's managed two base runners in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to score.

Samantha Bloom had two hits and a run for King's while Lexi Wolk contributed two RBI. Brittany McNair also scored twice for King's. Linso took the loss in relief, allowing one hit and one run.

King's returns to the field again on Thursday with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Lycoming College in Williamsport
