KING'S SOFTBALL SWEPT BY MANHATTANVILLE IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE OPENER

PURCHASE, NY -- The King's College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader in its Freedom Conference opener against host Manhattanville College Saturday in Purchase, NY. The Valiants won by scored of 6-4 and 10-2.

In the opener King's scored four unearned runs in the first inning but would not score the rest of the game. King's mustered just five hits in the game, led by Samantha Bloom with who went 2-for-4 and scored one run. Alizabeth Ellsworth, Kelcie Senchak, and Lexi Wolk also added base hits. Rachel Linso took the pitching loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits.

In the nightcap King's took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Lexi Wolk singled, Rachael DeTore doubled, and Ellsworth drove in Wolk from third on an infield out. 

After Manhattanville scored two runs in each of the second and third innings to go ahead  4-1, King's added a run in the fifth when Nicole Turner drove in Brianna DiMaggio with a single to cut the lead to 4-2.  
But the Valiants put the game away in the sixth inning with a six-run outburst to go ahead 10-2.

Bloom and Wolk paced King's with two hits each while DiMaggio, Turner, DeTore, and Amber Saylor each added hits. Bloom was the losing pitcher, allowing nine earned runs on nine hits while striking out four batters.

King's will host DeSales Thursday in another league doubleheder at 3:00 p.m. in the Betzler Complex.
