KING'S SOFTBALL DROPS OPENING PAIR IN MYRTLE BEACH
MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The King's softball team dropped both ends of its opening games Sunday at the annual Snowbird Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC.
King's lost its opener to Penn State Harrisburg 5-0, then fell to Rhode Island College 9-6Â in its second game.
In the opener against Penn State, King's allowed all five runs in the game's first at-bats, thanks in part to two errors which resulted in three unearned runs.
But the Monarchs struggled at the plate, registering just five hits in the game. Brianna DiMaggio led the way with a 2-for-4 showing while Samantha Bloom, Lexi Wolk, and Alizabeth Ellsworth each had one single.Â
Rachel Linso ws the losing pitcher for King's, allowing all five runs, two which were earned, on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
In the second game King's tied the game at 1-1 in the third when Zina Knight singled and later scored on an RBI base hit by Brianna DiMaggio. Â In the fourth King's added four more runs thanks to a pair of Rhode Island errors and RBi singles from Wolk and Rachael DeTore, giving King's a 5-1 lead.Â
But Rhode Island tied the game with four in the fourth, then won the game with four more in the sixth to walk away with the win.
DiMaggio, Bloom, Amy Kowalczyk, Nicole Turner, Wolk, DeTore, and Amber Saylor all had one hit for King's. Bloom took the pitching loss, allowing all nine runs on eight hits with five walks and eight strikeouts.
King's plays Monday against Mt. Aloyisus at 9:30 a.m. and SUNT-Poly at 11:30 a.m.Â
