KING'S SOFTBALL TO HOLD ARMED FORCES DAY SATURDAY
WILKES-BARRE — The King's College softball team will host Armed Forces Day Saturday during the team's 1:00 p.m. home Freedom Conference softball doubleheader against Delaware Valley University.
Festivities will begin at 12:55 p.m. with a military color guard presenting the American Flag. Following an introduction, several military veterans will be introduced, including active Army Sergeant Oscar Flores, retired Army Master Sergeant Lisa Girman, retired Navy Lieutenant Commander Luanna Corrado, and retired Army Sergeant First-Class Andy Niebauer.
Throwing out the first pitch will be retired Army Reserves Captain/Medical Service Corps Officer Michelle Patches-Niebauer. Patches-Niebauer is a former King's softball standout who played for the Monarchs from 1998-2001 and is the program's all-time career leader with a 1.36 earned run average. She also fourth at King's with 15 career pitching wins and is third all-time with 13 shutouts.
The National Anthem will be performed by King's student Lindsay Denion.
King's softball team enters the conference doubleheader with a 9-9 record while standing 2-2 in league competition. Delaware Valley is 11-8 and 2-2.
Sophomore Kelcie Senchak tops King's with a .474 (18-38) batting average with 16 runs scored, two doubles, two triples, and 10 RBI. Sophomore Samantha Bloom follows at .417 (25-60) with 15 runs scored, and 11 RBI while fellow sophomore Alizabeth Ellsworth is hitting .409 (18-44) with 15 RBI. Freshman Amber Saylor stands at .348 (8-23) with nine runs while sophomore Brianna DiMaggio bats .341 (14-41) with 13 runs and five RBI. Freshman Lexi Wolk checks in with a .316 (18-57) mark with 14 runs and 11 RBI while Rachael DeTore contributes at .311 (14-45) with six doubles, 13 RBI, and 10 runs scored. Senior Amy Kowalczyk chips in with a .283 (13-46) average with five doubles and 11 RBI.
Senior Rachel Linso tops the pitchers with a 4-5 record and 27 strikeouts in 56 innings. Bloom is 3-4 with 41 strikeouts in 40 innings, while freshman Mikayla Hoskins is 2-0 with four strikeouts in 14 innings.
For the Aggies, Jamie Stefani tops the squad with a .424 (25-59) with 10 doubles and 12 RBI. Kelsey Stoneberg follows at .421 (24-57) with four home runs, two doubles, and 20 RBI. Morgan Brown stands at .3340 (17-50) with two home runs and 12 RBI while Maddy O'Donoghue chips in with a .320 (16-50 average with three home runs, six doubles, and 13 RBI.
Stefani tops the pitcher with a 7-3 record with a 1.38 earned runs average with 56 strikeouts in 66 innings. Brown is 3-0 with 14 strikeouts in 37 innings.
