KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH EASTERN
ST. DAVIDS -- The King's College softball team scored three runs in the seventh inning to post an 8-6 victory as the Monarchs salvaged a split with host Eastern University Saturday in St. Davids.
With the split King's stands at 14-12 overall and 5-3 in the Freedom Conference while Eastern is now 8-18 and 3-7.
In the second game the Monarchs trailed 6-5 heading into the seventh. King's took advantage of a pair of Eastern errors and a walk to Zina Knight to load the bases with two out. From there Rachael DeTore drilled a three-run double for what proved to be the game-winning runs.
DeTore finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI while Kelcie Senchak was 2-for-3. Samantha Bloom was thw inning pitcher in relief, going one and one-third innings without allowing a hit or a run while striking out three batters.
In the opener Eastern took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed in the game. The Monarchs managed just five hits in the game as Senchak was 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Alizabeth Ellsworth also added a solo home run.
Rachel Linso was the hard-luck loser for King's, allowing four runs, one which was earned while striking out two batters.
King's hosts Morrisville State Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
