KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER AT FRANKLIN & MARSHALL
LANCASTER -- The King's College softball won the first game of its Thursday doubleheader at Franklin & Marshall College 12-3 but were unable to make a mid-game lead stand up in the nightcap as the Monarchs fell 10-5 in game-two.
With the split, King's now stands at 19-13 while F&M slipped to 18-14.
In the opener, King's banged out 16 hits, including 10 extra-base hits, and scored in every inning. The Monarchs plated two runs in the first, four in the second, and two more in the third to jump out to a 8-1 lead. The Monarchs added one more in the fourth and three in the fifth to invoke the eight-run mercy rule.
Kelcie Senchak was 4-for-4 with a triple, double, two RBI and scored three runs. Lexi Wolk was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs while Samantha Bloom finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Shelby Eby went 2-for-2, Brianna DiMaggio was 2-for-3, and Amy Kowalczyk finished 2-for-3 with a triple. Rachael DeTore was 1-for-4 with a two-run triple while Alizabeth Ellsworth added a solo home run. Bloom was also the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on seven hits.
In the nightcap King's held a 5-1 lead but the Diplomats erupted for seven runs in the fifth and never surrendered the lead.
Meagan Beaupre was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a solo home run. Senchak was 1-for-4 with a double while Zina Knight and Bloom also added base hits.
King's will return to action Saturday with an important home Freedom Conference doubleheader against Misericordia University at 1:00 p.m. in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
