KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS KEYSTONE

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team picked up a pair of wins Monday woth a doubleheader sweep of visiting Keystone College at the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King's, which won by scores of 3-1 and 11-0 in five innings, improved to 21-15 while Keystone slipped to 14-20.

In the opener King's stook a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Brianna DiMaggio singled and later scored on a RBI single from Lexi Wolk. The Monarchs added another run in the fourth when Amber Saylor singled and scored on a RBI base hit from DiMaggio. King's added its final run in the sixth when Megan Beaupre singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tara Westington, and touched home on another RBI single by DiMaggio.

DiMaggio finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI while Wolk was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Saylor also added two hits King's. Samantha Bloom was the winning pitcher for the Monarchs, tossing a complete-game two hitter while striking out five batters.

In the nightcap King's exploded for seven runs in the second inning with the big blows coming by way of a bases loaded triple from Bloom and a two-run single by Brittany McNair. Kelcie Senchak also added a sacrifice fly.

King's added three more runs in the third thanks to a two-run double off the bat of Beaupre. The Monarchs added the final run of the game in the fourth when Elizabeth George walked, Madie Kumm doubled, and Tiffany Jagoda brought home George with an infield grounder.

Saylor and Wolk were both 2-for-2 with two runs while Beaupre finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. McNair was 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored while Bloom was 1-for-3 with three RBI. Rachel Linso was the winning pitcher for King's, scattering six hits to earn the shutout win. 

King's closes out its Freedom Conference schedule on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home doubleheader against FDU-Florham. King's needs to win both games to lock up the third seed but will be relegated to the fourth seed if they lose either game to FDU.
