KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH FDU-FLORHAM, SETTLES FOR FOURTH SEED IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
WILKES-BARRE -- Heading into its Freedom Conference doubleheader with visiting FDU-Florham on Saturday, the King's College softball team needed a sweep in order to leapfrog the Devils and secure the number-three-seed in next week's league tournament.
King's, however, dropped the first game 5-1 before rallying to win the nightcap 6-5 and settle for the fourth-seed in the Freedom Conference Championships, which begin Friday at Wilkes University.
In the second game King's rallied from a 5-1 deficit by scoring five runs in the fifth inning Rachael DeTore was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI while Meghan Beaupre finished 3-for-3 with three RBI. Samantha Bloom was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.
In the opener King's managed just four hits in the game. Alizabeth Ellsworth accounted for King's lone run with a solo home run in the second inning.
The Freedom Conference Tournament will be hosted by Wilkes University Friday and Saturday. King's will play top-seeded Manhattanville Friday at 10:00 a.m. Second-seeded Misericordia faces third-seeded FDU at 12 noon.
