KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH SCRANTON
JESSUP -- The King's College softball team split a doubleheader with non-conference local rival The University of Scranton Wednesday at the Jessup Sports Complex.
King's won the first game 7-6 before Scranton took the nightcap 8-0. With the split King's stands at 12-10 while Scranton is 8-10.
In the opener Amber Saylor powered King's offensively with a 3-for-4 effort, including two home runs, a double, and six RBI. Saylor's two-run home run in the third inning gave the Monarchs a 2-0 lead. her two-run shot in the fifth pushed the score to 5-0. After Scranton score four in the bottom of the frame, Saylor delivered a two-run double in the sixth to give King's a 7-4 advantage.
Zina Knight was 2-for-2 with a double and scored three runs. Kelcie Senchak finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and also picked up a complete-game pitching victory in her first career appearance in the circle. Senchak allowed six runs, four earned, on 10 hits and struck out five batters.
In the nightcap King's mustered just four hits. Saylor, Lexi Wolk, Tara Westington, and Monica Burda each had just one single. Rachel Linso was the losing pitcher, allowing five earned runs and allowing seven base hits.
King's will travel to face cross-town rival Wilkes Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Ralston Complex in Edwardsville.
