KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM FACING WILKES IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS IN THURDSAY RESCHEDULE

WILKES-BARRE — The fourth-seeded King's College women's tennis team will make its seventh consecutive appearance in the MAC Freedom Conference Tournament on Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face cross-town rival Wilkes University at 7:30 p.m. at the Kingston Indoor Tennis Center. The match was originally slated for Tuesday but was rained out.

King's finished the regular-season with a 7-9 overall record while going 2-3 in conference games. Wilkes, meanwhile, is 18-2 overall and 5-0 in conference matches and is shooting for its eighth straight league title. The teams played their regular-season match on April 15 with Wilkes posting a 9-0 win.

King's is paced by senior standout Madeline Griffin who has posted a 17-2 singles record this season and has gone 40-3 the past two years. Griffin will face one last epic showdown with Wilkes' number-one player Kendra Croker (18-3). Griffin was the 2014 MAC singles champion, defeating Croker in the championship match. Croker countered by winning the 2015 title, bettering Griffin in the final. The pair have gone 2-2 against one another over their careers. Both Griffin's losses this year are to Croker, while Griffin won both matches last season.

Joining King's in singles is Julia Keppel (7-11), Lauren DeReinzi (8-8), Hannah Jenkins (7-12), Maggie Walsh (9-10), and Miranda Warunek (4-10). King's doubles teams will consist of Griffin/Jenkins (10-7), DeReinzi/Walsh (8-7), and Keppel/Warunek (3-5).

Wilkes' line-up is stacked with impressive records other than Croker.  Madison Salmon is 20-1 while Jordan Vasarkovy is 20-2. Grace Graham is 18-4 while Taylor Hoffman is 18-6. Julie Baranov is 11-0 on the year. In doubles, Wilkes will enter Croker/Vasarkovsky (19-3), Hoffman/Julia Baronov (14-2), and Salmon/Olivia Hewison( 18-0).

The winner of the King's-Wilkes match will face the survivor of the other semi-final pairing between second-seeded Misericordia and third-seeded Eastern on Saturday at a time to be announced at gthe site of the highest remaining seed. The Freedom Conference champion will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
