KING'S WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY SCORES FIRST, FALLS TO LVC 4-2
ANNVILLE -- The first-year King's College women's ice program program scored the first goal of a game for the first time in its young history. But in the end, host Lebanon Valley College captured a 4-2 victory Saturday at Hershey Park Arena.
With the win Lebanon Valley improved to 2-2 on the year while King's slipped to 0-5.
King's took its first-ever lead just 2:01 into the game when Josée Aitken scored her second career goal on assists from Gracen Mahoney and Mary Deyell. Lebanon Valley would respond 8:10 later on a power-play goal by Nikki Lloyd to knot the score at 1-1.
The game remained deadlocked entering the second period where the Flying Dutchwomen took a 2-1 lead when Amy Templeton scored o power-play goal with with 11:59. The lead grew to 3-1 on a goal by Emma Stillwaggon with 8:50 left in the period, a lead Lebanon Valley would take into the final period.
King's cut the lead to 3-2 with 14:52 to play when Deyell scored he first career goal off assists from Aitken and Caitlin Redden. But Lebanon Valley quickly answered just 1:45 later on a goal from Nikki Lloyd to push the Flying Dutchwomen lead to 4-2. Neither team would score the rest of the way at Lebanon Valley walked away with the victory.
Lebanon Valley outshot King's 34-28 while King's led in won faceoffs 35-30. Lady Monarch goalie Kiva Sierra Stoltz made 30 saves in the game for King's.
King's and Lebanon Valley will conclude their home and away series tomorrow (Sunday) with a 3:00 PM matchup at Revolution Ice in Pittston.
