KING'S WOMEN'S HOCKEY TIE LEBANON VALLEY TO RECORD PROGRAM'S FIRST POINT

PITTSTON, PA --- The King's College women's ice hockey team recorded the first point in program history with a 0-0 overtime tie with visiting Lebanon Valley College on Sunday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston.

The Monarchs improved to 0-5-1 overall with the tie. They are now 0-3-1 in UCHC play and 0-1-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Lebanon Valley stands at 2-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in UCHC and MAC play.

King's put together one of their best defensive performances of the season against the Flying Dutchmen who have beaten the Monarchs 4-1 and 4-2 in the two previous meetings between the programs this year. King's held a 26-20 shot advantage in the game and won 40 of the 66 face-offs.

The Lady Monarchs had four shots on goal in the first five minutes but were unable to find the back of the net. Lebanon Valley went on the power play midway through the first period but the Monarch defense held tough as the Dutchmen got off three shots but two were saved and one was blocked by Grace Mahoney.

In the second period, King's won the opening face-off and Mary Deyell was able to get a shot off in front of the goal but it was saved by Jill Moffatt in goal. The Dutchmen countered with back-to-back shots on the other end of the ice but both were saved by Emma Zeveney. The second period saw the most action as the teams combined for 19 shots with Lebanon Valley taking 10 of them but neither team was able to score. The Monarchs put three shots on goal 14 minutes in but Moffatt kept the King's off the board. Zeveney matched her counterpart on the other end of the ice as the Dutchmen responded to King's attack with a short burst of their own. The Dutchmen put four shots on goal in the last five minutes of the period but the teams went into the second intermission still deadlocked at zero.

King's looked to score early in the third period as the team came out of the locker room strong with a flurry of shots. The Monarchs recorded five shots on goal in the first six minutes and had two more shots blocked and one go wide of the net.  The Monarchs run was briefly interrupted after a penalty put the Dutchmen on the power play. The Monarchs defense held strong for the two-minute penalty holding Lebanon Valley without a shot. The Dutchmen received another power play opportunity at the 12:56 mark of the period but once against the King's defense held tough not allowing a shot on goal with Josée Aitken and Caitlin Redden blocking shots. King's came out of the penalty kill with their sights on scoring a goal but Moffatt made save after save to keep the game scoreless. The Dutchmen pushed late to score the game-winning goal as the team was able to get three shots off in the final minute of play but Zeveney kept the puck out of the goal to send the game into overtime.

In the five-minute extra period both teams were able to get three shots on goal but as they had all game both goalies turned away every shot they faced.

Raeann Clancey led King's with six shots while Caitlin Redden and Josée Aitken had five each. Kellie Munro won 21 of 36 face-offs while Gracen Mahoney won 18 of 29. Emma Zeveney recorded her first career shutout with 20 saves in goal including a couple saves on breakaway attempts.

Emma Stillwaggon, Nikki Lloyd, and Chloe Glass each had four shots for Lebanon Valley. Jill Moffatt made 26 saves in goal.

King's will now be idle until December 1st and 2nd when they travel down to Maryland to face UCHC and MAC rival Stevenson University for a weekend series. The teams will play at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
