KING'S MEN'S HOCKEY DROPS 3-2 HEARTBREAKER TO CASTLETON ON GOAL WITH 10.9 SECOND LEFT

RUTLAND, VT -- Ryan O'Toole scored the game-winning goal with just 0:10.9 left in regulation as host Castleton State University posted a 3-2 victory over the King's College men's ice hockey team Friday night in Rutland, Vt.

With the win Castleton improved to 3-5 while King's slipped to 0-7 in its inaugural season of varsity hockey.

King's took a 1-0 lead 6:58 into the game when Eric Meninger struck net off of assists by Luciano Bucci and Seamus O'Kane. Castleton knotted the score at 1-1 with 9:01 remaining in the opening frame as Matt Bloomer scored on assists by Troy Taylor and Ryan Ng. 

The Spartans built a 2-1 lead with 2:06 left in the first period as Kurt Johnson scored off assists from Glenn Wiswell and Trevor Hanna. The Monarchs tied the game with 4:50 remaining in the second period when Nicholas Gullo scored on assists from Jamie Lukas and Seamus O'Kane.

With the game seemingly headed for overtime, Castleton forced a faceoff in the King's zone with 0:21 to play.  After the puck made its way past a maze of players to the right post, Ryan O'Toole fought off a number of players to knock in what proved to be the winning goal.

Castleton outshot King's 41-21 and won 39 faceoffs compared to 27 for the Monarchs.  King's goalie Jake Tugnutt made 38 saves in the game for King's while Ryan Mulder recorded 19 stops for the Spartans.

King's will play Tufts University in the consolation game Saturday at 1:00 PM. Tufts dropped a 5-3 decision to Brockport State i the other first-round pairing.
