KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT DREW, 92-88
MADISON, NJ -- The host Drew University men's basketball team outscored visiting King's College 8-4 to break up a 84-84 tie with under a minute remaining as the Rangers posted a 92-88 victory in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night in Madison, NJ.
With the win Drew improved to 4-3 while King's slipped to 3-4.
King's led 53-44 with 16:01 to play but Drew battled back to take a 70-69 lead with 8:04 to play. With the game tied 84-84, the Monarchs were then whistled for a foul with 0:42 left and Riley Collins hit both shots to put the Rangers ahead 86-84. After a King's turnover, the Monarchs were forced to foul and Collins made one-of-two attempts to up the Drew lead to 87-84.
Chris Fazzini was fouled on the next King's possession and hit both shots to bring the Monarchs to within 87-86 with 0:13 left. King's was then forced to foul and Collins made good on both shots to give Drew a 89-86 lead with 0:12 remaining.
King's again fouled and Mike Boice converted both free throws to push the lead to 91-86 with 0:07 to play. King's Tony Maloney was then fouled attempting a three-pointer and made two-of-three shots to bring the score to 91-88 with 0:02 remaining. King's would foul with 0:01 on the clock and Aldrich made one-of-two attempts to set the final score.
Connor Callejas led King's with 19 points on 4-of-7 from three-point range. Maloney had a career-high 14 points with four three-pointers while Millan and Fazzini added 11 points apiece.
Collins led Drew with 23 points and four three-pointers while Aldrich and Yonathan Napolean added 18 and 15 points respectively. The Rangers also held a big 55-29 rebounding advantage, including 20 on the offensive glass.
King's returns to action Friday and Saturday with the annual FNCB Bank Monarch Classic. King's hosts Penn State Hazleton Friday at 8:00 PM while 2016 NCAA national qualifier meets Old Dominion Athletic Conference contender Lynchburg College in the 6:00 PM opener. The consolation game is Saturday at 1:00 PM with the title game to follow at 3:00 PM.
