KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM TO HOST FNCB BANK/MONARCH CLASSIC FRIDAY/SATURDAY, CALLEJAS NEEDS SIX POINT TO REACH 1,000-PLATEAU

WILKES-BARRE — The King's College men's basketball team will return home to Scandlon Gymnasium Friday and Saturday with the FNCB Bank/Monarch Classic.

King's will play host to Penn State Hazleton Friday at 8:00 PM. The tournament will top off at 6:00 PM when Susquehanna University faces Lynchburg College of Virginia.  Play will continue Saturday with the consolation game at 1:00 PM and the championship to follow at 3:00 PM.

Daily tickets prices are $5 for adults, $2 for seniors, $2 for non-King's students showing I.D.  In addition, children under age-six shall be admitted free.  King's College students attend free with the presentation of their current student I.D.

King's is looking to win its first Monarch Classic since the 2010-11 season. Susquehanna, meanwhile, has won the event every year since the 2012-13 campaign and will be looking for a fifth straight championship at King's. The two teams have already placed once this season with King's posting a 93-89 upset in the opening round of the Susquehanna Trailways Tip-Off Tournament on November 17.  

King's sports an 8-0 all-time record against Penn State Hazleton, including a 77-66 win last season. The Monarchs also own a 28-19 all-time advantage over Susquehanna. King's and Lynchburg have only played once previously with the Monarchs posting a 80-77 victory in the 1986-87 season.

Senior guard Connor Callejas tops the squad by averaging 18.0 points, 2.0 assists, and 19 three-pointers. Callejas need just six point to reach the 1,000-point plateau for his collegiate career.  Senior forward Chris Fazzini follows with 11.1 points, and 6.0 rebounds while sophomore guard Tyler Millan adds 10.4 points and 3.1 rebounds with 12 three-pointers. Freshman guard Noah Tanner averages 9.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. Sophomore guarD Joshua Bailey has tallied 7.0 points and 2.9 assists while senior small forward James Willis has registered  6.3 points and 3.0 boards. Sophomore small forward Tony Maloney and junior guard Lenny Radziak chip in with 5.6 and 4.0 points respectively.  The Monarchs have averaged 81.7 points while allowing 82.8 each contest.

Penn State Hazleton stands at 3-5 after a 93-74 road victory over Penn State Scranton Tuesday night. Nick Nowak tops he Lions with 19.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per-game with 17 three-point field goals. Royce Brathwaite follows with 17.2 points and 2.2 rebounds with 18 three-pointers while Shay Nelson adds 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds. Brandon Mohammed contributes 9.2 points and 11.6 rebounds while Robbie Hopkins also posts 9.2 points with 4.2 boards, 5.6 assists, and 13 three-pointers. Penn State Hazleton averages 75.2 points while yielding 75.2 per-game.

Susquehanna enters the event with a 3-3 record following a 56-55 victory over Goucher College. The Crusaders have won their last two games, including a 75-62 victory over Misericordia on November 29. Susquehanna was 23-6 last season and reached the third round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Senior 6-foot-7 center Ryan Traub tops Susquehanna with 18.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per-game. Sophomore 6-foot-8 center Jacob Walsh follows with 16.0 points, 7.3 rebounds each contest, and 1.3 assists while freshman guard Bryce Butler adds 9.3 points, 6.2 boards, and 2.5 assists each contest. Junior guard Seth Callahan contributes 9.0 points, 2.5 rebounds while senior guard Adam Dizbon has tallied 7.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. Freshman guard Matt LaCourte and junior guard Tyler Hoagland chip in with 6.3 points and 6.2 points per-game respectively. As a team the Crusaders average 72.8 points per-game while allowing 76.7.

Lynchburg, a member of the nationally-respected Old Dominion Athletic Conference, stands at 3-4 on the year after a 88-72 loss to ODAC rival Randolph-Macon College on Saturday. The Hornets were 16-10 a year ago.

Sophomore guard Chance Greene leads the team with 19.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per-game while making 23 three-pointers. Junior 6-foot-7 forward Connor Schroeder follows with 13.0 points and 6.4 rebounds with 15 three-pointers while senior 6-foot-7 forward Logan Seacrist adds 9.3 points and 3.0 rebounds. Junior guard Austin Wrighten has posted 9.1 points, 6.9 rebounds while fellow junior guard Devante Young chips in with 7.6 points and 3.4 assists each game. Lynchburg averages 79.4 points per-game while allowing 77.0 each contest.
