King's Softball Team Splits in Myrtle Beach Finale to finish 4-4 over Spring Break

KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS TO FINISH SPRING BREAK TRIP AT 4-4

MYRTLE BEACH -- For the fourth straight day the King's College softball team split a pair of games in Myrtle Beach, SC.

In its morning contest the Monarchs dropped a 9-3 decision to unbeaten (7-0) Eastern Mennonite University. King's then earned a 4-3 victory in its afternoon matchup against Penn State Abington. King's finished its Spring Break trip with a 4-4 record.

In the win over Penn State Abington, King's took a 1-0 first inning lead when Amber Saylor walked, stole second, and later scored from third on a bunt single off the bat of Lexi Wolk.  King's added an unearned un in the third when Allie DeVoir reached base on an error, stole second, the score from third on an infield out.

King's added its final two runs in the sixth when Nicole Turner led off with a single and Megan Beaupre followed with a double to give the Monarchs runners at second and third. Two batters later pinch hitter Andria Narisi delivered a two run single to push the lead to 4-0.

But King's had to hold onto the win when a two-out infield error with two runners on loaded the bases and Penn State Abington followed with a triple to cut the score to 4-3. But Samantha Bloom entered the game in relief and induced a fly ball to left field to end the game. 

Kocher improved to 2-1 with the win, scattering 10 hits while striking out three batters.Bloom picked up the save. Beaupre was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles  while Wolk and Narisi contributed one base hit and two RBI apiece.

In the opening loss to Eastern Mennonite, King's scored two runs in the first inning when Saylor and Samantha Bloom both singled and scored on a two-out single by Turner.  

Mennonite scored once in the first and twice in the second to take a 3-2 lead but broke open the game with four runs in the fifth innings to forge ahead 7-2.  The Royals tacked on two more in the sixth while the Monarchs posted an unearned run in the seventh.

King's mustered only four singles in the game, led by Turner who was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Samantha Bloom (2-1) was the losing pitcher, allowing seven runs in four innings with two strikeouts.

King's will return to the field Tuesday with a 3:00 PM doubleheader at Muhlenberg College in Allentown.
