KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH KEYSTONE

LA PLUME -- The King's College softball team captured the first game of its doubleheader at Keystone College 11-3 in five innings, but the Lady Giants came back to take the nightcap 6-3 to salvage a split Monday in LaPlume.

With the split King's stands at 11-9 on the year while Keystone is 6-14.

In the opener the teams were tied 3-3 after three innings when King's pushed across a pair of runs in the fourth. Samantha Bloom led off with a triple before Taylor Norris followed with a run-scoring single. After Rachael DeTore reached base on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a wild pitch, Megan Beaupre followed with a RBI sing;e to give King's a 5-3 lead. 

The Lady Monarchs would then add six runs in the fifth. Beaupre had a two-run double while Nicole Hopper, Bloom, DeTore, and Ally DeVoir all had RBI singles in the inning. Amber Saylor also doubled and scored a run as the game was halted after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Bloom and DeTore were both 3-for-4 with three runs and a RBI while Beaupre finished 2-for-4 with five RBI and a double. Norris went 2-for-3 with a RBI. 

Norris was the winning pitcher, allowing three earned runs in three innings of work. Kristina Kocher picked up a two-innings save.

In the second game Keystone broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the third inning and added another in the fifth to build a 5-0 lead.

King's attempted to rally with three runs in the sixth thanks to a RBI single off the bat of DeVoir while Bloom added a two-run single. 

Keystone added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning thanks to a King's error.

DeVoir finished 3-for-3 with a RBI while Bloom was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Norris went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Kocher was the losing pitcher for King's, yielding three earned runs in two innings.

King's returns home Tuesday with a 3:00 PM doubleheader against Lycoming College in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
