DALLAS -- The King's College softball team took a big step towards qualifying for a 18th straight conference tournament berth as the Monarchs went on the road to pick up an important doubleheader sweep of host Misericordia University Thursday in Dallas.

King's won the first game 4-2 before taking the nightcap 12-7. With the sweep King's improved to 14-10 overall and 7-3 in the Freedom Conference while Misericordia slipped to 11-13 and 5-5.

In the opener, King's trailed 2-0 before rallying with one run in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth to secure the comeback victory.

In the fourth inning, Amber Saylor singled and then scored on a RBI double by Samantha Bloom.

King's pushed across the winning runs in the sixth when Saylor singled and Megan Beaupre drew a two-out walk. Rachael DeTore then drilled a three-run home run to push across what proved to be the deciding runs.

Saylor finished 2-for-4 with two runs while DeTore went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer run. Taylor Norris also added two base hits for King's. Samantha Bloom (7-2) was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs with four strikeouts.

In the second game King's came out of the gates with five runs in the first inning, then added three more in the third to build an 8-1 lead. Misericordia scored three in the fifth to close to within 8-5, but the Monarchs put the game away with four runs in the sixth inning to push the score to 12-5.

Lexi Wolk was 4-for-5 with two runs and a RBI triple. DeTore finished 3-for-4 with three runs and another three-run home run. Alizabeth Ellsworth went 3-for-4 with two runs while Saylor was 2-for-4 with solo home run. Brittany McNair chipped with with a two-run single. Kayla Paszek was the winning pitcher allowing seven runs, three that were earned, in seven innings of work.

King's returns to the field Monday with a 3:00 PM doubleheader at Immaculata University.
