KING'S SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR TO WILKES
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team dropped a pair of Freedom Conference games to cross-town rival Wilkes University Saturday in the Betzler Athletic Complex. Wilkes rallied form a 2-0 deficit in game-one to win 4-2 while the Lady Colonels added a 5-0 victory in the second game.
With the sweep Wilkes improved to 22-10 overall and 9-3 in the Freedom Conference while King's slipped to 15-13 and 7-5.
In the opener King's took a 2-0 first inning lead when Samantha Bloom and Lexi Wolk both singled. Megan Beaupre followed with a RBI single while Rachael DeTore delivered a sacrifice fly.
Wilkes scored one in the third inning but added three in the sixth to push across what proved to be the game-winning runs. Caitlin Brown had a RBI sing;e while Christina Gambino delivered a two-run double.
Wolk led King's with a 2-for 3 effort while scoring a run. Bloom was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Bloom (8-3) was the losing pitcher, allowing four runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.
Sarah Gibson was 2-for-4 while Celine Podlesney was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Gambino finished 1-for-3 with a two-run double to pace the Colonel attack. Podlesney was the winning pitcher for Wilkes, allowing two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts.
In the second game Wilkes scored one run in each of the second and third innings, then put the game away with a three-run fifth. Brown was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI while Gracen Stauntan was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Haley Welker went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Stauntan (11-3) was also the winning pitcher, allowing five hits with four strikeouts
King's was paced by Ally Devoir who was 2-for-2. Bloom, Beaupre, and Brittany McNair also added base hits for King's. Kayla Paszak (1-4) yielded five runs, four earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts.
King's will host Franklin & Marshall Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
