KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS AT FDU IN REGULAR-SEASON CONFERENCE FINALE
MADISON, NJ --The King's College softball team wrapped up its MAC Freedom Conference slate Saturday with a doubleheader split at FDU-Florham. King's won the first game 4-2 before dropping the nightcap 5-4 in eight innings.
With the split King's clinched the third seed in next weekend's Freedom Conference Tournament. The Monarchs stand at 17-15 and 8-6 in league play. FDU is 12-21 and 5-9. King's will be making an MAC Freedom record 18th straight post-season tournament appearance.
In the opener King's held a slim 2-1 lead before scoring twice in the seventh. Samantha Bloom went 3-for-3 with a run and RBI while Taylor Norris finished 2-for-4 with a RBI. Megan Beaupre and Rachael DeTore were both 2-for-4. Â Samantha Bloom (9-3 picked up the pitching victory for King's, scattering five hits while striking out six batters.
In the second game King's fell behind 4-1 but scored one run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to tie the game at 4-4.  FDU scored the winning run unearned in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
Bloom was 3-for-4 to finish the day with six hits in seven at-bats. Alizabeth Ellsworth went 2-for-4 with a run while Monica Burda finished 2-for-3 with a run. DeTore was 1-for-4 and scored twice.
King's will close out the regular-season Tuesday with a 3:00 PM home doubleheader against Arcadia University.
The Monarchs will face second-seeded Wilkes in Friday's Freedom Conference opener at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown at a time to be announced.
