KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS EASTERN IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TWIN BILL

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team picked a pair of important victories Wednesday with a double-header sweep of Freedom Conference rival Eastern University Wednesday in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King's won the first game 5-2 before taking the nightcap 8-0 in five innings. The sweep enabled the Monarchs to improve to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in league play. Eastern slipped to 3-15 and 0-6.

In the opener King's took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Megan Beaupre sing;ed and later scored on an Eastern error. Alizabeth Ellsworth also singled before scoring on a RBI base hit from Brittany McNair.

After Eastern tied the score in the top of the third inning, King's answered with three in the bottom of the frame. After Amber Saylor singled, Samantha Bloom drilled a RBI triple. Beaupre added a run-scoring double before Nicole Turner delivered a RBI double to set the final score.

Beaupre finished 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI while Ellsworth was also 3-for-3 with one run scored. Saylor was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Bloom was the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap King's took a 1-0 first inning, Saylor singled and scored on a double by Bloom. The Monarchs pushed across five runs in the second inning, keyed by a three-run triple by Saylor and a RBI single from Rachael DeTore.

Saylor went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a triple. Kayla Paszek finished 2-for-3 with a run while Bloom was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. King's freshman pitcher Kristina Kocher tossed a five-inning one hitter in the game to improve to 4-2 on the year.

King's returns to action Saturday with a 1:00 PM Freedom Conference doubleheader at DeSales in Center Valley.
