BLOOM REGISTERS 100TH BASE HIT WITH HOME RUN AS KING'S SOFTBALL SALVAGES SPLIT WITH DESALES
CENTER VALLEY --  Junior Samantha Bloom registered the 100th base hit of her career on a two-run home run in the seventh inning to push across what proved to be the deciding run as the King's College softball team salvaged a doubleheader split with Freedom Conference rival DeSales University Saturday in Center Valley.
DeSales won the opener 7-6 before King's captured the nightcap 5-4.
With the split King's now stands at 10-8 overall and 5-3 in league competition. DeSales, meanwhile, slipped to 9-11 and 2-4.
With King's clinging to a 3-2 lead in the top-of-the seventh inning. Amber Saylor reached base on a fielder's choice before the left-handed Bloom cracked a home-run over the right-field fence.  The hit proved to be important as DeSales countered with two runs in the bottom-of-the seventh thanks to three King's errors in the inning to set the final score at 5-4.
Bloom went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in game-two. Rachael DeTore was 2-for-3 with three RBI to pace the Lady Monarchs' offensively. Bloom was also the winning pitcher, tossing a complete-game five-hitter, allowing four runs, none which were earned.
In the opener, King's led 2-1 when DeSales scored fur runs in the bottom-of-the-third inning to take a 5-1 lead. After the Bulldogs added a run in the fifth inning to go ahead 6-1, King's scored two runs after a DeSales error with the bases loaded to cut the score to 6-4.
In the top-of-the-seventh, King's tied the game at 6-6 when Megan Beaupre singled and Rachael DeTore followed with a big two-run home run to knot the score at 6-6.
But DeSales pulled out the win with a lead off double and one-out RBI single to give the Bulldogs the 7-6 victory.  Beaupre led King's by going 3-for-4 with a RBI while DeTore finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and scored two runs. Alizabeth Ellsworth also added two hots for the Monarchs.
Kayla Paszek took the pitching loss in relief of starter Kristina Kocher. Paszek yielded the final two runs in four and one-third innings of work.
King's returns to action Monday with a 3:30 doubleheader at Keystone College.
