WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 15, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team will look to take a big step towards qualifying for the postseason on Tuesday when they take on DeSales University at 4 p.m. in Center Valley. The Monarchs and Bulldogs are currently tied for third in the standings with six points.

Last Time Out: King's picked up their first road victory of the season with an important 1-0 victory at Manhattanville on Saturday.
Anna Lacalamita scored in the 61st minute off a cross by
Danielle Putnam in a match that King's dominated possession.
Jess Schenfeld made four saves in goal to earn her fifth career shutout.
The Bulldogs also recorded a 1-0 victory on the road on Saturday. Josie Davis-Allen scored off an assist by Anja Wilson in the 75th minute to give DeSales the victory at FDU-Florham. Haley Jacobs made five saves for her second consecutive shutout in goal.
The Book On The Monarchs (5-7-0, 2-2-0 MAC Freedom):
- King's is in control of their own destiny to qualify for the MAC Freedom Tournament for the first time since 2015. The Monarchs have matches against DeSales, Delaware Valley, and Eastern left. KC has already played the two teams tied for first in the standings. Eastern and FDU-Florham are just two points back heading into the final three matches of the season.
- King's has never won at DeSales and is 4-19 all-time against the Bulldogs. The Monarchs ended a five-match losing skid in the series last year when Andrea Galvin scored in the sixth minute to give KC a 1-0 victory at McCarthy Stadium.
- Junior Anna Lacalamita came off the bench on Saturday to score her first goal of the season. The midfielder has played in 11 of King's 12 matches this season making three starts.
- Junior Danielle Putnam leads the team with seven points on two goals and three assists. Both of her goals were game-winning goals which is the third-most in the MAC Freedom.
- Freshman defender Kara Keim scored her team leading third goal of the year last week against Wilkes. All three of her goals have been beautiful rockets from distance. She is tied for seventh in the conference in goals scored. Keim scored her first two goals in a week span to be named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week on September 24th.
- Three sophomores are having great offensive years for the Monarchs. Emily Harrington has scored two goals, including the game-winner against FDU-Florham, and has an assist. Harrington returned to the field against the Valiants after missing a couple matches and her presence was noticeable as she setup many Monarch scoring opportunities. Emma Baumbusch and Stephanie Corea are tied for ninth in the conference with two assists each.
- Junior forward Sophia Sacknievich has provided an offensive spark with two goals and an assist She scored both of her goals in the first two matches of the year and assisted on Keim's goal against Wilkes. She has found her way into the starting lineup the past four matches after beginning the season coming off the bench.
- Tara Bender has seen the majority of time in net this season and was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week a few weeks ago. She has recorded a 2.04 goals against average and a .740 save percentage. The freshman is 4-6 in 839:05 minutes of action. Her 5.40 saves per match is fourth in the conference. Bender saved a season-high 10 shots last Wednesday against Wilkes.
- Junior Jess Schenfeld got the shutout victory in goal against Manhattanville on Saturday and has recorded a 1-1 record in four appearances this year. She has a 0.66 GAA and a .857 save percentage in 274:32 minutes of work.
The Book On The Bulldogs (5-6-2, 2-2-0 MAC Freedom):
- DeSales is riding a two-match winning streak following consecutive 1-0 victories over Manhattanville and FDU-Florham last week. DSU is looking to qualify for their fifth consecutive conference tournament.
- The Bulldogs are 2-2-1 on their grass field this season. DSU has faced the same four conference opponents as the Monarchs with nearly the same exact results. They began conference play with a 5-1 loss to Misericordia and a 2-1 loss at Wilkes before rattling off back-to-back victories against the Valiants and Devils.
- The Bulldogs have been outscored 26-16 this season but nine of those goals conceded were at the hands of second-ranked Messiah. DeSales has posted six shutouts.
- Junior Sydney Amato and freshman Natalie Dorsheimer lead the team with seven points on three goals and one assist each. Dorsheimer scored the overtime winner against the Valiants last Wednesday and all three of her goals were game-winners.
- Freshman Sam Riccardi has recorded six points on two goals and two assists while sophomore Rachel Medlar leads the team with three assists and 26 shots taken.
- Six other Bulldogs have found the back of the net this year led by sophomore Annie Brush with two.
- Senior Haley Jacobs was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after recording two shutouts last week. The keeper is 5-5-1 this season in 11 starts while recording a 2.16 GAA and a .667 save percentage. She is tied for third in the conference with four shutouts.
Up Next: The Monarchs will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday when they host Delaware Valley University at 5 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium. It is the final home MAC Freedom match of the season.
