Monarch Field Hockey Game Notes – Eastern

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 4, 2018) – The King's College field hockey team will look to get back to its winning ways on Friday evening as the Monarchs jump back into Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play with a key home contest with Eastern University at 7 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium. King's has dropped back-to-back games at home coming into Friday, falling to Alvernia University 2-0 Wednesday evening in their last outing.

Last Time Out: The King's field hockey team gave up two second-half goals in a 2-0 loss to Alvernia University Wednesday, dropping to 6-7 overall on the season. After the break, Alvernia opened the scoring at 41:51, as Andrea Zimmerman finished a nice passing play for the 1-0 edge.

King's had the game's next chance as Kelley O'Keefe took a pass on the left wing off of a corner but her shot was stopped by Beamesderfer. That's where the game would stand until 55:28, as Morgan Mondschein tapped in a rebound off an Erica Grove shot to make the score 2-0.
At full-time, King's was awarded three penalty corners and generated four shots with the last shot forcing a whistle and a penalty stroke. Freshman Hannah Robbins stepped up but her attempt to the right of Beamesderfer was stopped to secure the shutout.

Alvernia held a 16-7 shot edge while earning nine of the game's 15 penalty corners. Maluda finished with six saves for the Monarchs, while Runo added two defensive saves as well. Beamesderfer made six stops to earn the shutout.

Eastern University Field Hockey fell to the No. 4 Lions from the College of New Jersey in a non-league match at Eastern Wednesday. The Lions scored four times in the first half and added another three in a five-minute stretch in the second half for a 7-0 final. Eastern goalie Marley Redfield had 14 of her 15 saves in the first half. Eastern had a 5-4 edge in penalty corners in the match.

The Book on the Monarchs (6-7, 2-0 MAC Freedom):
  • The Monarchs will be looking to get back to scoring goals more consistently on Friday, having netted just two goals over their last three games.
  • King's is allowing the third-lowest amount of goals per game this year in the MAC Freedom, as the Monarchs are surrendering 1.85 a game.
  • After starting the season 3-0 at home, the Monarchs have posted a 1-3 record in McCarthy Stadium over the last four games.
  • KC is accumulating penalty corners on a consistent basis, picking up at least six in each of their last five games.
  • Senior defender Taylor Runo posted two defensive saves on Wednesday evening, a career-high, and has the second-most in the conference with three this year.
  • Senior Taylor Gabriele has had success against Eastern in her career, having netted three goals in career games against the Eagles.
  • Sophomore Jolee Treslar posted four points in a 3-0 win at Delaware Valley, which is the highest point output in a game this season for the Monarchs.
  • King's has had a tendency to score some nice goals this year, as 12 of the 14 goals scored this year for the Monarchs are assisted on.
  • This season when King's scores first, it is 6-0, but has gone 0-7 in games where it has trailed.
The Book on the Eagles (2-9, 0-2 MAC Freedom):
  • Eastern comes into the game Friday with one of the league's top offensive units, scoring 21 goals on the year, third-most in the league.
  • The Eagles have played a solid schedule thus far, but have surrendered 43 goals in 11 games, the most by any MAC Freedom team.
  • Joelle Wash has taken 3.27 shots a game for the Eagles, third-most in the MAC Freedom. She is also tied for sixth in the conference in assists with three.
  • Teammate Alison Hoag is second in the conference in points with 1.64 per game, while her eight goals scored this year is also second-best in the league.
  • Eagle goalkeeper Marley Redfield is second in the conference in saves with 75, but has allowed a league-high 36 goals.
  • Alexis Gooch leads the defense and has a conference-high seven defensive saves, one shy of the national leader at eight.
  • As a team, Eastern leads the MAC Freedom in defensive saves with 13.
Against Eastern All-Time: King's has a 3-11 all-time record against Eastern but has won the last two games including last year's 3-2 win in St. Davids, PA. King's is 2-3 at home against Eastern all-time, and 1-8 at Eastern. According to FieldHockeyCorner.com, these two teams have the exact same computer ranking at 93.7 coming into the weekend.
