WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 5, 2018) – The King's College men's soccer team will look to extend their unbeaten streak on Saturday night when they visit Misericordia University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest at 7:30 p.m. on Mangelsdorf Field in Dallas.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs were off all week after their match on Tuesday got cancelled against Penn College because of bad storms that rolled through the Williamsport area. Last Saturday King's opened conference play with a dominating 4-0 victory over FDU-Florham.
Liam McLoughlin scored twice to lead the Monarchs offensively while August Axman scored his third penalty kick goal of the year.
Aidan DeCamillo scored late on a breakaway attempt. The Monarchs stifled the Devils all match allowing just four total shots with just one needing
Owen Geedey to keep out of the back of the net.
The Book On The Monarchs (6-3-2, 1-0-0 MAC Freedom):
- King's continues to have the top-ranked defense in the MAC Freedom and one of the best in the nation. After the seventh shutout of the year last weekend the Monarchs are ranked 13th in Division III with a team goals against average of 0.43. Their shutout percentage of .636 is ranked 17th while their save percentage of .865 is 27th. KC leads the conference in least goals allowed with five while playing the most minutes.
- The Monarchs are outshooting their opponents 191-76 this year and have put more shots on goal than they have allowed with 79. KC is putting 41.4% of their shots on goal. The Monarchs defense is allowing just 6.9 shots per match. The team continues to lead the conference and are 13th in the nation with 7.27 corner kicks taken per match.
- Defender August Axtman continues to be one of King's top scorers as well as anchoring the defense. The junior captain was named the MAC Freedom Defender of the Week for the second time this season after the Monarchs posted two shutout victories last week allowing just 16 total shots. Axtman scored his third penalty kick goal of the year last Saturday for his team-leading fourth goal of the year. His four goals are the third-most in the MAC Freedom. The junior now has scored seven penalty kick goals in his career. His two game-winning goals are the most in the conference.
- Senior keeper Owen Geedey is having the best year of his already impressive career. The captain has been honored twice as the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week. He is ninth in the nation with 1046:12 minutes played and has six shutouts this season which is ranked 10th. He is currently the school record holder with 28 career shutouts and is just two shutouts shy of his school record eight in a season that he recorded in 2016. His .865 save percentage is the best in the conference and 34th in the nation while his 0.43 goals against average is up to 18th in the nation.
- Sophomore Liam McLoughlin scored twice against the Devils last Saturday to give him three goals and one assist on the season. He leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 27 shots taken. Junior Aidan DeCamillo has also recorded seven points on three goals and one assist this season. DeCamillo and classmate Fabio Massa are tied for ninth in the MAC Freedom with 21 shots taken.
- Freshman Quentin Szeker-Cortes sits in a tie for fifth in the conference with four assists. The defender has recorded all his assists off set pieces as he has taken many of the free kicks and corner kicks for the Monarchs.
- Sophomore midfielder Sam Pipicelli has recorded a point in the past three matches with two goals and an assist. Senior Zach Wolcott has also recorded a point in the past three matches with one goal and two assists.
- The Monarchs are on a four-match unbeaten streak and have won their past two by shutout. King's is undefeated on the road this season going 1-0-2 in three matches.
- King's is 7-22-2 against Misericordia dating back to 1990 and have a 1-13-2 record when playing in Dallas. The Monarchs and Cougars have played three consecutive 1-0 contests with MU winning in 2015 and 2016 before Axtman converted a penalty kick in double overtime last year giving the Monarchs a huge victory at McCarthy Stadium. The Monarchs last won at Mangelsdorf Field in 2014 when they advanced to the Freedom Conference Championship with a 3-1 victory in the semifinals to avenge a 2-1 loss to Misericordia exactly a month earlier.
The Book On The Cougars (2-7-1, 1-0-0 MAC Freedom):
- The Cougars enter Saturday's contest with a 2-7-1 overall record and 1-0 mark in conference play. Misericordia went on the road to defeat 2017 MAC Freedom runner-up DeSales 3-2 last Saturday before dropping a 5-1 decision at regionally-ranked Dickinson on Tuesday. MU has played a very strong non-conference schedule.
- MU and King's have two common opponents this season with the Cougars going on the road to defeat Arcadia 1-0 and drawing at Scranton 1-1 early in September. The week heading into the beginning of conference play Misericordia hosted nationally-ranked MAC Commonwealth opponents Messiah and Lycoming. The Cougars fell to top-ranked Messiah 4-1 before falling to 17th-ranked Lycoming 2-0.
- Andy Loughnane is in his third season as head coach of the Cougars who are still looking for their first win on Mangelsdorf field this season. Misericordia is 0-5 at home with losses to Immaculata, Salisbury, Rutgers-Camden, Messiah, and Lycoming.
- MU has struggled finding the back of the net this season with eight goals in 10 contests while allowing 22. They like to play very physical earning 9.90 fouls per match and a total of 13 yellow cards, both of which are second in the conference. Sophomore Dylan Molyneaux leads the team with four yellows this season
- The Cougars are led offensively by sophomore Nick Ruggiero and junior Jared Houser who both have two goals on the season.
- Senior Ethan Aigeldinger has also recorded four points on one goal and two assists. He is eight in the conference with 22 shots taken. Junior Nick Szczerba, freshman Thomas Vaccaro, and Molyneaux have each scored a goal for the Cougars.
- Sophomore keeper Dominic Pizzi has been strong in net this season tallying 46 saves in nine matches. He has a GAA of 1.78 and a save percentage of .742. Pizzi is ranked third in the MAC Freedom with an average of 5.11 saves per game, first in saves, and has one shutout on the season.
- Freshman Andrew Daubenspeck has seen action in goal the past two matches including the full 90 in Tuesday's match at Dickinson. He has a GAA of 4.82 and a save percentage of .600 in 111:59 minutes of action.
