Monarch Men's Basketball Game Notes - Elizabethtown

WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 26, 2018) – The King's College men's basketball team will try to make it two in a row as they visit Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa.'s Thompson Gymnasium on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. matchup. For both squads, this is their last non-conference matchup before conference play begins.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs scored their first victory of the season emphatically, as they scored 115 points on Clarks Summit on Nov. 19, the team's highest scoring game since 1967. The team also shot 54.9 percent from the field and made 13-of-14 free throws. James Willis scored a personal best 30 points off the bench and shot over 78 percent from the field. His performance earned him MAC Freedom Player of the Week honors on Monday. Jake Pawliczak added 17 points in the victory.
 
The Book on the Monarchs (1-4):
  • This is the second of four scheduled meetings between King's and teams from the Landmark Conference. They've already lost to Susquehanna, and they've got the University of Scranton and Drew left on their non-conference slate.
  • The Monarchs' biggest strength a year ago is still there this year, as they are and 4th with a +9 turnover margin and 14th in the nation with 12 steals per game. King's has registered 22.8 turnovers per game, which is tops in the MAC Freedom.
  • The Monarchs have tried 140 three-point attempts so far, which is third in the MAC Freedom. JJ Glinsky has 31, fourth among individuals in the conference.
  • King's defense has been solid so far, as they have allowed 74.8 points per game, a 10 point improvement from last season.
  • The Monarchs have spread the ball evenly so far this season, as 10 plays have averaged at least 4 points per game, and seven have 10 ore more field goals.
  • Jake Pawliczak is the Monarchs' leading rebounder and blocker, with 6.6 rebounds per game and four total blocks.
  • Noah Tanner leads the Monarchs with 3.2 assists per game, while fellow guard Josh Bailey  isn't far behind with 3.0 assists per game.
  • Tanner's 1.6 assist to turnover ratio ranks 10th in the conference.
  • James Willis leads the team with 14.0 points per game. His 30 points in a game in Monday's win against Clarks Summit were the most by a Monarch since Tom Heston scored 31 on Dec. 5, 2015 against FDU-Florham. It is also the most points scored by a player in the MAC Freedom so far this season.
 
The Book on the Blue Jays (2-2):
  • The Blue Jays were selected seventh of eight teams in the Landmark preseason coaches poll. Moravian was chosen as the favorite in the poll.
  • Elizabethtown went 5-19 last year, finishing seventh of the eight conference teams
  • The Blue Jays are 2-0 so far this season at Thompson Gymnasium,
  • The Blue Jays are the best free-throw shooting team in the Landmark Conference so far, shooting 79 percent from the line.
  • Ethan DuBois was seventh in the Landmark Conference last year with 3.8 assists per game. He is third so far this season with 4.5 assists per game, and first with 3.0 steals per game. DuBois had five steals in Elizabethtown's 85-74 win over Lebanon Valley last Tuesday.
  • DuBois is shooting 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the three-point range, which is the best in the conference, and 58.8 percent (20-of-34) from the field, which is fourth in the conference.
  • Brandon Berry is 17-of-18 from the free-throw line, and his 94.4 free throw percentage is the highest in the Landmark and is 33rd in the nation.
  • Britt Moore is in his second season as coach of Elizabethtown after spending the previous six years at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford. He has compiled a 7-21 record with the Blue Jays.
 
Up Next for the Monarchs: The Monarchs will open MAC Freedom play as they play host to Eastern University beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5 at McGrane Gymnasium.
