Edoukou, Forgash Break Two Records In Season Opener

LANCASTER, PA (December 1, 2018) – Emmanuel Edoukou and Mitchell Forgash each broke two school records while Matthew Nelson broke one school record on Saturday in the season-opening meet for the King's College men's indoor track and field team at the Diplomat Open on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster.

There was no team scoring at the meet.

On the Track
60 Meter Dash 
Emmanuel Edoukou started the year strong with a school record time as the sophomore finished fourth overall out of 69 runners. Running in the first of 10 heats, his time of 7.09 seconds was a MAC qualifying time and lowered his own previous record of 7.16 seconds he ran at this meet last year. Johns Hopkins University had the top three finishers as Alexnader Mollick won in 7.03 seconds, Matthew Su was second in 7.04 seconds, and Justin Canedy was third in 7.06 seconds. Richard Kell finished second of seven runners in the ninth heat with a time of 7.59 seconds just missing the MAC qualifying time by .07 seconds. James Powell was sixth in the same heat as Kell with a career best time of 8.41 seconds. Albright's Mahki Little won the ninth heat in 7.42 seconds.
 
200 Meter Dash 
Emmanuel Edoukou broke his second school record of the day and had another top-five finish as he finished third overall out of 80 with a MAC qualifying time of 23.03 seconds. Edoukou won the second heat in lowering his previous record of 23.78 seconds he ran at the MAC Championships last year. Richard Kell ran in the seventh of 14 heats and finished with a time of 25.11 seconds. Alexander Mollick won the event with a time of 22.87 seconds running in the first heat. Lebanon Valley's Nathan Anzel was second overall and won the third heat in 22.99 seconds.
 
400 Meter Dash 
Mitchell Forgash had an impressive debut as the freshman finished third out of 36 runner with a school record and MAC qualifying time of 52.55 seconds. Forgash won the fourth heat and had the top Division III time at the meet as he bested the previous school record of 54.93 seconds that Sean Doherty ran at Lehigh last year. In his heat Catholic's Derek Chapey was second with a time of 54.33 seconds. Stephen Bondurich won the event in 52.02 seconds running for the Penn State Track and Field Club. Lincoln University's Nicholas Deleon was second in 52.06 seconds. Both Bondurich and Deleon ran in the first of eight heats.
 
800 Meter Run 
Mitchell Forgash outkicked Logan Yoquinto of Ursinus College to win his first collegiate event in a field of 36 with a school record and MAC qualifying time of 2:00.61. His second record of the day bested the previous record of 2:12.60 run by Daniel Michels last year at Cornell. Fellow freshman Yoquinto finished in 2:00.84. Dair Miller finished third in the third heat with a time of 2:14.93. Lincoln had the top two runners in the heat who edged Miller in an exciting finish with times of 2:14.15 and 2:15.83
 
3000 Meter Run 
Michael Duncklee finished ninth out of 19 runners in the second heat and 26th overall with a career best time of 9:51.11. Daniel Michels wasn't too far behind him finishing 11th in the heat with a time of 9:52.35. Matt Schoch was King's third runner in the field and ran a career best time of 10:19.70. Noah Brady of Lebanon Valley won the heat with a time of 9:19.92 Elizabethtown's Samuel Gerstenbacher was the overall winner in 8:40.82 as JHU's Vipul Bhat finished second in 8:42.16.
 
Field Events
High Jump
Matthew Nelson recorded a MAC qualifying and school record height of 1.80 meters (5/10.75") to finish eighth out of 19 jumpers. He bested the previous record of 1.73 meters that Peter Lombardo accomplished at the MAC Championships in 2016. Nelson was successful at 1.65 meters, 1.70 meters, before needing three attempts to hit 1.80. He missed all three attempts at 1.85 meters. Sean Doherty also was a MAC qualifier with a height of 1.75 meters (5'8.75") to finish tied for 10th. Doherty hit his first attempt at 1.65 meters, 1.70 meters, and 1.75 meters before missing all three attempts at 1.80 meters. Freshman Justin Canedy of Johns Hopkins won with a height of 2.00 meters (6'6.75"). Catholic's Jake Marcelino was second at 1.90 meters (6'2.75").
 
Pole Vault
Sean Doherty and Kevin Wrobleski did not record a height. Doherty missed all three attempts at 2.90 meters while Wrobleski missed all three of his attempts at 3.05 meters. Benjamin Huang of JHU won with a height of 4.46 meters (14'7.5") while Caleb Christner of Messiah was second in 4.10 meters (13'5.25").
 
Long Jump
Matthew Nelson finished 12th of 16 jumpers with a MAC qualifying mark of 5.82 meters (19'1.25"). He recorded his top mark on his second jump. Nelson jumped 5.37 meters on his first attempt and 5.43 meters on his third jump. JHU had the top two finishers as Matthew Su won with a jump of 6.95 meters (22'9.75") on his third attempt. Justin Canedy was second with a mark of 6.71 meters (22'0.25") on his fifth attempt.
 
Shot Put 
Justin LeCadre had an impressive debut as the freshman finished third out of 33 throwers with a MAC qualifying mark of 12.82 meters (42'0.75") on three different throws. LeCadre started off with a mark of 12.82 meters before fouling and hitting 12.40 meters to qualify for the finals. In the finals he hit 12.82 meters on his fourth and sixth throws with a foul in the middle. Jackie Ni also qualified for MACs with a mark of 12.69 meters (41'7.75") to finish fourth. Ni started with a throw of 11.98 meters before hitting his best throw on his second attempt to qualify for the final. He hit 12.57 meters on his third attempt before fouling on all three attempts in the finals. Sean Doherty fouled on his final two attempts but hit 8.44 meters (27'8.25") on his first attempt while James Powell recorded a mark of 7.98 meters (26'2.25") on his first attempt before fouling on his final two throws. McDaniel's Billy Emerson won with a mark of 15.72 meters (51'7") on his sixth throw after qualifying for the finals with a throw of 15.32 meters on his third attempt. Solomon Potter of Lincoln was second with a mark of 13.33 meters (43'9") on his sixth attempt after a throw of 12.91 meters on his third attempt qualified him for the finals.
 
Weight Throw 
Jackie Ni and Justin LeCadre were the top two throwers out of a field of 20 with MAC qualifying marks. Ni won with a throw of 14.85 meters (48'8.75") on his fifth attempt. The sophomore threw 13.70 meters, 14.25 meters, and foul on his third attempt to qualify for the finals before recording marks of 14.62 meters, 14.85 meters, and a foul on his final throw. LeCarde hit 14.55 meters (47'9") on his third attempt of the day. He had marks of 13.41 meters and 14.33 meters on his first and fifth attempts. The freshman fouled on his other three throws. Garry Wrobleski of Lebanon Valley was third with a throw of 13.49 meters (44'3.25") on his first attempt.

King's won't be back in action until 2019 when the Monarchs travel to Susquehanna University to compete in the Orange & Maroon Classic on January 19, 2019 in Selinsgrove.
