WILKES-BARRE, PA (December 6, 2018) – The King's College women's ice hockey team will wrap up the first half of the season on Saturday when they make the trip north to SUNY Cortland where they will take on the Red Dragons at 2 p.m. in non-conference action from Alumni Arena.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs played Stevenson tough but were unable to score on the Mustangs in a pair of losses. Stevenson won by scores of 4-0 and 7-0 in United College Hockey Conference action.
Cortland lost to Buffalo State 5-2 and then tied the Bengals 1-1 in Northeast Women's Hockey League action from Buffalo. Grace Schnorr scored both goals in the loss on Friday before Katie DeVoe scored with 1:10 left in the third period on Saturday to give the Red Dragons a tie.
The Book On The Monarchs (1-11-0, 0-8-0 UCHC, 0-4-0 MAC):
- Gracen Mahoney and Kellie Munro have led the team this season, recording five points each. Mahoney has three goals and two assists while Munro has recorded two goals and three assists. Mahoney scored in both meetings with the Red Dragons a year ago.
- Mahoney has been pretty good in the faceoff circle this year winning 52.3 percent of her opportunities. She has won 157 faceoffs and lost 143.
- Freshmen Meghan Mietlicki and Erin King have been very consistent on defense for the Monarchs this season. The duo has played in every game and have blocked a combined 47 shots.
- Emma Zeveney made 79 saves against Stevenson in 107:45 minutes of action. Four of the eight goals she allowed in the two games were power play goals. The sophomore has been good in between the pipes this season with a 6.33 GAA and a .874 save percentage.
- Kiva Sierra Stoltz has recorded a 6.50 GAA and a .863 save percentage in nine games, saving a total of 271 shots.
- King's has struggled with penalties this season as the Monarchs moved up to fourth in the nation with 12.2 penalty minutes per game recording a total of 146 penalty minutes in 12 games.
- After starting the season strong on the penalty kill, their national ranking has taken a hit the past few weeks as the Monarchs have allowed 10 power play goals in their last five games. The team has killed off a total of 53 of 68 power play opportunities against their opponents.
- King's combined special teams percentage of 51.4 percent and is ranked 30th in Division III. The Monarchs have been successful on 56 of 109 total power plays.
The Book On The Red Dragons (2-5-3, 0-5-3 NEWHL):
- The Red Dragons are 2-2-0 on home ice this season. Cortland began the year with a 3-2 victory and a 3-0 victory over Neumann University. Their two losses have been to SUNY Potsdam (2-1) and SUNY Oswego (3-1).
- Cortland defeated the Monarchs in both meetings last year. The Red Dragons won 6-1 on home ice before defeating King's 5-2 in Pittston near the end of the season.
- Senior defenseman, Samantha Pippin, has led the Red Dragons in points recording six points on two goals and four assists. Both of her goals and half her assists came in the opening weekend sweep of Neumann.
- Sophomore forward, Katie DeVoe, scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year to give the Red Dragons a 1-1 tie at Buffalo State.
- Amanda Gaffney and Emily Rose are tied with four points each. Gaffney has two power play goals and two assists this year while Rose has scored once and added three assists.
- Grace Schorr scored both of Cortland's goals in their 5-2 loss at Buffalo State last weekend.
- Senior Victoria Gibson has seen most of the action in net making 235 saves for a save percentage of .911 and GAA of 2.69.
- Chelsea Allain has played in four games and recorded a GAA of 1.21 and a save percentage of .955.
- Cortland has been one of the most disciplined teams in Division III as they are averaging just 6.2 penalty minutes per game. That is tied for the fifth-fewest in the nation. They have been very good on killing those few penalties giving up just two power play goals. They are ranked 14th on the penalty kill at 93.1 percent.
- Courtland's combined special teams percentage of 50.8 percent is ranked 32nd in the Division III.
Up Next: King's will take a month off for the finals and the semester break before returning to action with their toughest two weekends of the season. The Monarchs will travel to take on William Smith College the weekend of January 12-13, 2019 before traveling to highly-ranked Elmira College the following weekend.
